Questions about bath boards & transfer benches

What is the difference between a bath board and a bath transfer bench?

A bath board rests across the top of the bath. The person sits on the end of the board at the bath edge, then lifts their legs over. A bath transfer bench has legs inside and outside the bath, so the person sits on the bench outside the bath and slides across. A transfer bench suits people who find lifting their legs over the bath edge hard.

Can you have a bath sitting on a bath board?

No, a bath board keeps you seated at rim height to shower, not down in the water. A bath board suits showering over a bath, using a hand shower while seated. To be lowered into the bath water, a bath lift is a different product to consider.

How do you get into the bath with a transfer bench?

Back up until you feel the transfer bench behind your legs, then sit on the outside end. Slide across the seat and lift your legs over the bath edge one at a time. A sliding seat, such as on the Royale Bath Transfer Bench with Sliding Seat, can make the move easier. Follow any method your OT has shown you.

Can a shower bench go in a bathtub?

Yes, a bath transfer bench is a shower bench made for a tub, with two legs inside the bath and two on the floor outside. Measure the inside width of the bath and the height of the rim, and check that the bench legs adjust to suit. Make sure the shower screen or curtain can still close.
