Caring for someone at home: making the bed the easy part

Helping someone in and out of a standard bed is hard on both of you. A Hi-Lo homecare bed, bed rails and an overbed table can change the whole routine.

If you are caring for a partner or parent at home, the bed is often where the hardest work happens. A standard bed is too low to help someone sit up without bending, too high or too soft to get out of safely, and every position change means lifting, pulling or stacking pillows.

What makes it hard

  • Height. Helping someone sit up or transfer at a low bed puts strain on the carer's back.
  • Position. Sitting up to eat, read or take medicine usually means a pile of pillows that keeps sliding.
  • Getting out at night. A dark room and nothing to hold on to make night-time trips risky.

A bed that does the lifting

The Enjoycare EKB931-Y Hi-Lo Homecare Bed with Headboard is an electric bed that looks like a normal bedroom bed but works like a care bed:

  • the sleeping platform raises and lowers from 31 to 78 cm, so you can set a good height for transfers and for helping
  • the back and leg sections adjust, with built-in lumbar support of up to 10 cm
  • preset TV and Zero Gravity positions, a one-touch flat function and memory settings
  • two under-bed lights for getting up after dark
  • bedside support rails to hold when sitting up or getting in and out

For extra protection along the side of the bed, the folding bed rails for the EKB931-Y are made to fit.

Make meals and activities easier too

An overbed table brings everything within reach while sitting up in bed or in a chair. The Enjoycare EKT202 Height Adjustable Overbed Table with Split Tilting Top adjusts from 73 to 125 cm and has a top that tilts for reading.
